Île-de-France Region: 550,000 connected users on a sovereign collaborative suite
Région Île-de-France chose Leviia to deploy a large-scale collaborative suite, integrated into monlycee.net and serving more than 550,000 students, teachers, and administrative staff.
Région Île-de-France runs monlycee.net, the online platform for high schools across the region, used by more than 550,000 students, teachers, and administrative staff. To help these users collaborate more effectively, exchange information, and share files securely, the Region wanted to integrate a full collaborative suite into the platform, built on Nextcloud and operated on Leviia’s sovereign, highly scalable infrastructure.
The challenge
Working alongside Worldline, the operator of the regional digital workspace (ENT), this large-scale project had to address three major requirements:
- Ensure large-scale adoption: more than 500,000 users with varied profiles (students, teachers, administrative staff), with differing expectations and skill levels.
- Guarantee smooth integration with existing tools: monlycee.net, the region’s SSO, and the digital services already in place.
- Deliver a high level of customization, to meet the specific needs of the education community and reinforce awareness around digital sovereignty.
Why Région Île-de-France chose Leviia
“Availability, responsiveness, and an iterative approach were decisive factors in our collaboration with Leviia.”
The main criteria behind this decision:
- Technical expertise: deep expertise in Nextcloud and multi-instance deployment, built to support more than 500,000 users. The architecture relies on a single access point, high availability, and optimized data distribution across three data centers.
- A tailored project: dedicated support at every stage, backed by a dedicated team and hands-on workshops. Rather than a standard solution, Leviia delivered a customized approach, built in partnership with the Region.
- Integration: native interconnection with Nextcloud, the Region’s SSO, Worldline’s PSN digital services, and existing SOC/SIEM monitoring systems.
- Compliance and sovereignty: a solution hosted in France, certified ISO 27001 and HDS, and GDPR-compliant. Since the project involves data belonging to minors, confidentiality and data protection were absolute requirements.
Implementation and results
“Connecting to the monlycee.net environment and adapting to how each school operates were key to our collaboration with Leviia, allowing us to get the most out of these tools.”
The collaborative suite, built on the Nextcloud software layer and operated by Leviia, gives each user:
- 10 to 100 GB of storage, sized according to user profile
- An online office suite (Collabora Online) for real-time document co-editing
- Secure internal and external sharing, with granular permissions management
- A fully automated account lifecycle, integrated with SSO
- Advanced protections: WAF, antivirus, anti-DDoS, and erasure coding across multiple data centers in France
Results:
- Fast, widespread adoption by users
- High availability with no performance degradation
- Full compliance with security standards and regulations

“Sovereignty will never replace quality, which remains an essential criterion when choosing a solution. Leviia managed to combine both: a sovereign solution that also meets our quality and performance requirements.” — Bernard Giry, Deputy Director General for Digital Transformation, Région Île-de-France
